Taco bowls

Who doesn’t love tacos?! This is a fun way to change up your taco routine; I made this meal a long time ago when we only had two kiddos’ and I do make these every now and then instead of your traditional taco or burrito. The kids love them and love to fill it with their favorite ingredients, and adults love it because you get more of all the delicious fillings in one bowl, and I love it because after everything is made its up to everyone else to assemble their own! Feel free to add, or change the ingredients to fit your home, weather its more spice, less spice, more meat, or no meat at all. Give these a try and you won’t be disappointed!

Ingredients:

10 Tortillas (see homemade tortilla recipe)

4lbs ground beef (or shredded chicken)

Taco seasoning:

  • 3tbsp chili powder

  • 3 tsp ground cumin

  • 3 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tsp paprika

  • 1.5 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (if using fresh cayenne peppers skip this)

2, 12 oz jars of salsa (or if using homemade sasla one quart is good)

1 large green bell pepper and 1 large red bell pepper

(optional) 3 jalepeno peppers

(optional) 2 cayenne peppers

1 large onion

2 garlic cloves

lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese for toppings (personal opinion here on how much)

Directions:

Prepare your tortillas if you are making homemade tortillas, if you have store bought tortillas go ahead and heat your oven or grill to 350 degrees and grab a large muffin pan and flip it upside down, then place tortillas in bottom of pan to form a bowl, and toast in oven till they crisp up a bit and hold their shape.

In wok or large deep pan, or even on a flat top, coat in oil and add your chopped peppers, onions, and garlic and cook till they start to become soft. Then add your ground beef or chicken, taco seasoning, and cook till meat is done.

Take your toasted tortilla bowl, sprinkle bottom with cheese and add your taco meat to the bowl and fill about 1/3 full. Then top with more cheese, your lettuce, tomato, and sour cream (and whatever else your like to have on your tacos) then throw in a spoon and ready to serve! Also feel free to just bring the ingredients to the table and let everyone get creative with their own!
